What a 3 phase EV charger actually delivers
Up to 22kW, or around 120 km of range an hour. But your car sets the ceiling. On AC charging the car's onboard charger decides how much power it takes, and many EVs are capped at 7kW or 11kW. Check your owner's manual. A 22kW charger still works with those cars, it just runs at the car's limit. Where it pays off is with a car that takes the full 22kW, or if you want the charger ready for your next car.
Do you have three phase power
Look at your switchboard. A main switch made of three linked switches usually means three phase. If you're on single phase, the 7kW EV chargers are the ones for you. Upgrading a house to three phase is possible but involves your electricity distributor, so price it before you commit.

Three phase EV charger installation
Licensed electrician only. Each charger needs a dedicated 40A three phase Type A RCBO at 400V. Cable runs on three phase are bigger than single phase, so a long run to a detached garage will cost more. Get a quote for the run, not just the charger.
