Charging in a shared building is a different problem to charging in a house. You need to control who plugs in, know how much power they used, and make sure a few chargers don't trip the building. These Ocular chargers are built for exactly that.
What makes a good EV charger for apartments
Three things. Access control, so only the right people can charge. Metering, so usage can be tracked and billed. And load management, so the chargers share the building's spare capacity instead of overloading it. Both models here do all three.
Shared EV chargers: controlling who charges
Both the IQ Mini and IQ Wallbox use RFID cards. Hand a card to each resident who's paid in, and nobody else can start a session. You can also start and stop from the app, or set the charger to plug and charge for a single allocated bay.
Body corporate EV charging and billing
Once you need to charge residents for the power they use, go the IQ Wallbox. It has a MID-certified energy meter, the standard for billing, and connects to any OCPP charging platform so the strata manager can see sessions, set tariffs and bill automatically. It also has a 4.3" touch screen so drivers can see their session without an app.
Strata EV charger installation and load management
Most buildings can't give every bay a full 32A circuit. Both models work with the Ocular Load Controller or OCPP smart charging profiles, which share the available power across the chargers and dial back when the building is busy. Talk to your electrician and strata committee about capacity before you order, and check your state's EV-ready guidelines for strata.
Pick the model: IQ Mini or IQ Wallbox
Ocular IQ Mini: access control at the lowest cost
RFID access, app over Wi-Fi or 4G, OCPP support, LED status light. The value pick for one or two bays where you don't need to bill.
Ocular IQ Wallbox: billing and monitoring
Everything the Mini does plus a touch screen, MID meter and pole mount option. The pick for a shared bank of chargers.
Both come in 7kW single phase and 22kW three phase, cable or socket. Socket models suit shared bays because each driver brings their own lead.
